The story of the model

p2000i history

Family RVing tested the 2006 P2000i for its February 2006 issue. It said the new front cap, done with Porsche Design, finished an exterior redesign that had begun two years earlier with a new rear cap and roofline. The coach had frameless flush windows, a one-piece windshield with no center post and stacked xenon headlights. A year later the magazine reported that Porsche Engineering's studio in Huntington Beach, California, had worked with Newell on its exterior redesign, and quoted Karl Blade calling it Newell's first major redesign in more than 15 years. That news item did not name the model.

The 2006 test coach used a Caterpillar C15 engine with a ZF AS-Tronic 10-speed transmission, and an Allison automatic was optional. ZF also supplied the independent front suspension and the steering tag axle, and every wheel had air disc brakes. By the time MotorHome magazine tested a 2011 coach, the engine was a Cummins ISX with an Allison six-speed automatic.

The NewellGurus coach list says the first P2000i was coach 776, a 2006 model finished on August 1, 2005. Newell's own listing names coach 1460, a 2013 coach, as a p2000i VIP, while Family RVing tested a 2013 coach it called the 2020P. The owner list says coach 1466, also a 2013 model, was one of the first with the newer 2020p caps.
