Newell Series 2000

Newell's timeline dates the Series 2000 body to 1990, and owner sites date it through the 2004 model year. Newell says its squared-off shape set the pattern for later rear-engine motorhomes. In these years Newell added 8 inches of rear headroom (1995), slide-out rooms (1997) and a ZF suspension with a steering tag axle (2004). Family RVing's test of a 2003 coach, which it did not call a Series 2000, recorded 45 feet, four slide-outs, a 500-horsepower Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine and a base price of $742,500.

The story of the model

Series 2000 history

Newell's timeline dates the Series 2000 to 1990 and describes its look as a clean square box. The NewellGurus coach list says the first one, coach 214, was delivered in April 1989 as a 1990 model, and that coach numbers became part of the vehicle identification number with the 1990 models.

The same owner list tracks changes over the years, mostly by approximate coach number. It places the first all-electric Newell around coach 316 (1993), the first with a Series 60 engine around coach 363 (1994), the first slide-out around coach 436 (1996) and the first two-slide coach around coach 462 (1997). It says coach 645, a 2003 model, was the first with Valid electric slide-outs, and coach 671, a 2004 model, was the first with the ZF suspension and steering tag axle.

Family RVing's test of a 2003 coach recorded four slide-outs, a 55,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating and a price as tested of $999,240. A chassis survey in the magazine a year later showed the newer ZF running gear and a higher rating of 59,580 pounds.

Owner archives give the name 2000i to the 2005 and early 2006 coaches that followed.
