The full story

American Coach history

American Coach started as the luxury motorhome line of Fleetwood Enterprises. According to Wikipedia, Fleetwood was founded in 1950 by John C. Crean in southern California and moved to Riverside, California in 1962. Trade reports say the first American Coach, a diesel Class A motorhome called the American Eagle, was unveiled in 1991. The company says it was built in answer to years of customer requests for a higher-end coach.

Fleetwood's annual reports show the line growing through the 1990s. The report for the fiscal year that ended in April 1994 names only the American Eagle. The American Dream appears a year later, the American Tradition in the report for fiscal 1996, and the American Heritage by fiscal 2000. By 2007 the Heritage was the top model, above the Eagle. The reports list motor home plants in Decatur, Indiana, and a 2004 magazine article describes American Coach buyers collecting their coaches from the factory team in Decatur.

For the 2004 model year the Tradition and Eagle moved to a new frame called the Liberty chassis, which MotorHome magazine said Fleetwood developed with Spartan Motors. It let the coaches carry up to four slideout rooms. For 2007 the magazine reported a full-wall slide option on the Eagle and Tradition. A fourth model, the American Allegiance, shows up in Fleetwood's report for the fiscal year that ended in April 2008.

According to Wikipedia, Fleetwood Enterprises filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on March 10, 2009, and on July 17, 2009 the investment firm American Industrial Partners bought its motorized recreational vehicle assets. The same article says that in 2010 the firm combined Fleetwood with E-One, Collins Industries and Halcore Group to form Allied Specialty Vehicles, and that Fleetwood RV is now based in Decatur.

Wikipedia also reports that Allied Specialty Vehicles bought the RV assets of Navistar International, including the Monaco and Holiday Rambler brands, in 2013, renamed itself REV Group in November 2015, and sold shares to the public in January 2017. A REV Group release from 2023 also puts Holiday Rambler's arrival in 2013. American Coach became one of the brands of its REV Recreation Group unit, built in Decatur alongside Fleetwood and Holiday Rambler. The lineup changed often in these years. RVGuide's price listings show the American Heritage through 2015, a returning American Dream from 2016, the American Revolution through 2020 and a renewed American Tradition from 2021 to 2023.

American Coach's website now lists two families, the American Eagle and the American Dream, for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 model years. Both are diesel pushers on a Freightliner chassis that the builder calls Liberty Bridge. The website shows MSRPs of $787,546 for the 2025 American Dream and $1,044,025 for the 2025 American Eagle, rising to $821,622 and $1,075,412 for 2026 and 2027.

REV Group agreed on October 29, 2025 to merge with Terex Corporation, an equipment manufacturer. The merger closed on February 2, 2026, and REV Group shares stopped trading. American Coach now describes itself as a division of Terex, and its factory-tour page places the factory in Decatur. In June 2026 RV PRO listed American Coach, Fleetwood, Holiday Rambler and Renegade RV as brands of the Terex RV segment and reported that the 2027 models were shown at a dealer summit in Indianapolis.
